Senior High & Young Adults

Our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is Matt Griepentrog (“GREE-pen-trog”) at matt@crossoflife.org. He joined us in December 2014 and divides his time between Cross of Life (3/4) and Christ the King (1/4). Prior to coming here, Matt worked for seven years at South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake, Minn., responsible for overseeing the Youth Program, Sunday School, Confirmation and Vacation Bible School. Click here to read Matt’s full Bio.

After the Dos Equis Man There Was Matt! Matt Griepentrog may not be the most interesting man in the world, but he might be at COL! (Sorry John ....) Check out Matt's Video!

2014 SUMMER SERVANT TRIP TO NY A "SUPER" SUCCESS
48 Sr. High Youth, Parents & Staff traveled to New York from Sunday, July 6, to Saturday, July 12, for our Summer Servant Trip. They worked with Friends of Rockaway to help rebuild houses on Rockaway Peninsula that were devastated by Super Storm Sandy in October 2012. We give prayers of thanks for these individuals who devoted their time to help a community that is still very much in need.

Our Boundary Waters Travelers had an AWEsome Time!
Our trip to the Boundary Waters took place Saturday, July 13, to Saturday, July 20, 2013 and 42 Sr. High youth and 21 adults had an amazing time connecting with each other and with God. We give thanks for their safe return and the experiences they shared!

Check out our COL Facebook for pictures from the trip!

Opportunities Abound!
Here at Cross of Life, there are lots of opportunities for our Senior High youth to get together and to get involved! During the programming year (September-June), there are weekly Senior High Café Conversations (Sundays from 9:30-10:30 a.m.) and Sunday Night Events. There are also awesome Summer Trips that we do on a three-year rotation between Servanthood, High Adventure, and the National Youth Gathering.

Senior High Café
Our Senior High Youth Group meets every Sunday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for Senior High Café. These Conversations are generally led by several adult leaders, along with our youth members. Topics can range anywhere from marriage (with a visit from one of our Older, Wiser Lutheran couples who have been married for 50+ years) to discussions of the weekly Scripture reading - and how it affects our lives. Sit back and listen or share your insights. Whatever your style, we invite you to join us upstairs in the Senior High Room!

Sunday Night Events

Sunday Evening Events are the Senior High Youth Group's fun fellowship events! They take place almost every week, with activities and devotions (and food, set-up, and clean-up) planned by members of the Youth Board and their adult leaders. The Youth Board is a group of Senior High Youth who sign a covenant that states they will volunteer to plan and lead group activities and devotions. Responsibilities include etting a good example, demonstrating enthusiasm, inviting friends, and attending monthly Youth Board meetings.

Senior High Summer Trips
Every summer, Cross of Life is fortunate to offer a major trip for its Senior High Youth. We are blessed to have interested and committed adults who give their time in planning and attending these awesome trips. Trips are offered in a three-year rotation: a Servant trip one year, a trip to the National ELCA Youth Gathering the next year, followed by a High Adventure trip the third year.

Each trip has its own share of challenges and priceless rewards. All of the trips are planned with Christ at the center. We work on showing our Youth how they are a part of the body of Christ and how He works in each of their lives as well.
